FASHION SHOW GIRL

An online course that shows moms how to host on a fashion show for their daughters (ages 6 to 18), so they can gain confidence showing off their own handmade creations or styled fashions from their closet.

Fashion Shows are a Great Way for Girls to Express Themselves

Fashion shows can be a lot of fun! But they can also be a lot of work. I have done a few myself with my students and each time they get better and run smoother.

This is my latest fashion show set in my fashion design studio. The glittering curtains are actually always up and behind them is "back stage" where we get ready with hair and makeup when filming videos.
I love this simple, yet fashionable setup and think it's perfect to replicate, so in my Fashion Show Girl series I will be showing how to set up a similar fashion show. This could be perfect for moms wanting to organize a fashion show for their daughter and her friends or for a sewing teacher with students wanting to show off their latest creations.

So, since I don't have this course created yet, I'll share with you a little more details. In a later post I'll try to include better photos of everything, just in case you want to recreate a fashion show set.

  •   First, let's start with the curtains since they are kinda my favorite part! In my previous fashion shows I used black crushed velvet. But, for this set I actually made these curtains from 20 yards of sequin fabric. And, I backed them with the the black velvet, so they are reversible. I ordered the fabric off of ebay (for $5 a yard) and it took 3 weeks to arrive from China. The fabric made a huge mess and it took some time to make these very tall wide curtains, but the end result was worth it!

  • Next, is the rug...which of course I love too! It is black down the center with cream zebra print on the sides. What you can't see is that it is actually 24 feet long, which is the perfect length for a girls fashion show. I ordered this from UK for around $220 (on ebay) because in America all the rugs where only 8 feet long. It could have been an option to piece three together, but I didn't want anyone to trip over a seem and fall. So, I think getting the rug in a continuous length was a much better choice!

  • Then, there are the pink plastic chairs form Ikea (that cost around $25 each). I actually have 24 of them at the studio, some of them are at sewing tables, others are around cutting tables, but for a fashion show they all come out to the floor. I found two rows of 6 on each side works well in my space. And, then there are the high heeled chairs. They kinda move around the studio and don't really belong in the fashion show set, but looked fun in the photo, so they stayed.

In this series I also want to show girls how to restyle their own fashions so they can walk down the runway in something they recreated. When I did my first fashion show my students where in a course called Denim Delights. Over a 12 week period, students each made 5 items from recycling jeans. I was planning to eventually do some courses on that too, and have many sketches and bins of fabric waiting, but my schedule it kinda booked.

For now, I have a lot of Sewing Fashionistas courses that need to be edited. Plus Little Fashion Designers, Road to the Runway and Be a Sewing Teacher to film.  So I will have to let Fashion Show Girl sit until I have the time to work it in. When I have some free time I will do another post though because it would be nice to share a bit more about this progress of this project!
