Hate how you look on videos or camera
So you want to film some video for your business. In fact, you have been wanting to make some videos for almost a year now.

But you keep hearing this little voice that says “I am just too ugly right now...maybe in a month”. Or “I hate the way I look on camera”.

Watch The Video, Listen, or Read Below!

In today's we are going to address the question, “I hate how I look on camera.”
So maybe you want to create videos for your business, but you're just stuck on you. You can't do it because you don't like how you look or something about yourself.

I have been there in the past. And I think if you're female then it can come back over and over. So I'm not saying even now that I love how I look on video.

But that's the thing, it's not about that. It's not about loving yourself on video because you being on video is not all about you. Unless you're a movie star, but it's not even if you're a movie star because even movie stars, they play a role for their audience.

Being on video is about connecting with your audience, with your students, with your clients. It's about not being afraid, or rather it's about being afraid and having the courage to do it anyway.

So I actually have some tips or some challenges for you to go through. Before I get into those tips, I want to just ask you a question.

Can you address the problem rather than avoiding it? Can you figure out specifically what you hate about yourself on video? Is it your face? Is it your hair? Is it your body and or is it something else?

Why do you hate yourself on video?

I think if you can first address that, that's kinda the first step. You know, I felt this way before too. So I do know how it feels, and I'm sorry that you're feeling like this right now.

Hopefully this video can help you a little bit.

So I think what's happening is you're turning inward and you're looking at yourself. If you watch yourself on video or if you imagine yourself on video, you're just seeing what's in front of you.

And you have to go a step beyond that to see what others are going to see.

I don't think they're going to see all this hate. They're going to see a pretty happy person that is sharing something with them from their heart.

We need to get you out of your head. You are not ugly. Even if you feel ugly, you're not.

So when I had my fourth baby, I felt soo ugly. I had all kinds of extra baby weight on me and I tried to color my hair.

It was really long and beautiful and I wanted to color it multicolors on the bottom and it just got ruined because I had black hair with Henna. It was dark hair, but it was henna and that's a plant pigment that just adheres. So when we went to bleach it, it turned green.

And so I actually lost a foot of my hair and I had extra weight.

I look like I was, seven months pregnant. And normally I could hide my body behind my hair, but once my hair was cut, all I had with short hair that I couldn't hide behind.

I ended up not making videos for a while, like six months. So we want you to not experience this. So I have a few challenges for you.

Picture
#1 - Pull out the makeup

Go to Pinterest, look around at different makeup styles or go to youtube and look at styles and try something new to freshen up your face. Make it lighter or do something more fairy. Do something darker and Gothic.

Do whatever, go and play around with different makeup styles. Maybe you're not used to this, but it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter whether your familiar with putting on makeup or not.

Challenge yourself to go out of your comfort zone and put on some more makeup. It might be that just putting on some extra makeup  for video does the trick.

I have tons of makeup on right now, actually I have less now because it's kind of fading, but putting on blush, putting on lipstick, putting on stuff that's brighter and then going on video and taking a look at yourself. Maybe you like that version of yourself better.

So play with some makeup, pull out the makeup and see what you have. See what you can play around with. You can even go to the store and buy some new makeup. Makeup is always a great way to kind of cover up, enhance and make yourself feel different.

#2 - Get pampered at the spa

So who doesn't love a day at the spa or even an hour at the salon. This can be spa or salon, either one. For me it's the same, the lady that does my hair, has an eco-friendly salon, but she does some spa treatments too.

Maybe you need a different hairstyle. Maybe you just do a blow-out. Maybe you need a totally new do.

Just make sure that it's somebody that you trust and you can get advice from. Say, “what can I do to make my hair easier to style because I'm going to be doing videos”.

Or maybe “what looks better on my body style”, or “how can we make me look like a million bucks?”

#3 - Go on a shopping spree

So give yourself a little retail therapy.

You're feeling bad about yourself, you're hating on yourself, it’s not a good plan.

You want to build yourself up. You want to give yourself some confidence and be able to make those videos.

So go shopping and look for clothing that actually fits you.

And even if it's a size bigger. If it fits, it doesn't matter what the size label says. I don't even look at size. I don't care. Maybe I'm a 11, maybe I'm a 7, maybe I'm a 17, I don't care.

I have a neighbor friend and she actually won't buy something if it's a size that she doesn't accept that she is. Sometimes we gain weight, sometimes we get bigger and we have to just go with it.

After having four kids, I know that I fluctuate all over the place. I don't care that I was a size 1 or size 3 at one time and now I'm bigger. I just want clothing that fits and makes me look good.

So going on a shopping spree and finding something that makes you look good, even if it's just one top or one dress.

Then you can go back and make a video.

#4 - Drop the extra weight

I was almost not going to include this, but I decided to. So this can be looked at two ways. The first way is you actually go to the gym, you can walk, you can exercise, you can get on a diet plan, you can eat better, you can drink more water.

You can do any of those and drop that extra weight. I know it takes time.

So the other way to look at this would be just ignore it. Drop the topic, drop the subject, just forget about it. Forget that you have extra weight and move on.

I find that a lot of times people hate how they look on camera because they have extra weight somewhere. So let's just drop the whole weight subject all together.

#5 - Learn to love yourself

So I think this is really important and I think it can be very hard for women, especially when we're younger. Once we get a little bit older and we have so much going on and we're moms, it gets to a point where you're like, “yeah, I need to get myself a little bit of love.”

We all need to focus on that. We need to focus on loving ourselves more, loving how we look, loving that we have this body. That we’re able bodied and that we can do things. And even if we have problems, we still have to love ourselves.

There's many mornings where I get up and I don't feel so great. I might have a stomach ache or my body is achy. Thankfully not today because this sucks having to make videos.

If you're in pain, you don't want to hate on your body because there's something wrong with it.

So let's do a challenge here and write down THREE  things that you love about yourself.

#1 - I love (something) about my face
#2 - I love (something) about my body
#3 - I love (something) about myself

So anytime you are getting stuck in that rut and thinking, “I don't like myself right now. This is wrong with me and this is wrong with me and this is wrong with me. I'm not pretty and I hate my hair because it's too short and I'm overweight.”

What do you love about yourself?

It doesn't even have to be any of those physical things.

  • Maybe you just love that you have a working body.
  • Maybe you love that you can teach people something.
  • Maybe you have a special skill. Maybe you light other people up.

I taught sewing classes for many years. I teach online sewing. That is a special gift that I share with people. It doesn't matter how I look. It doesn't matter if I'm a witch a wart on my nose, but maybe it would, might scare the kids a little bit.

The point is, it doesn't matter if I have short hair, long hair, it doesn't matter. As long as I am happy teaching, then they will be happy learning.

So, pick something, pick three things that you love about yourself. Maybe it's just a single feature. Maybe you just love your eyes. Then focus on your eyes. Play them up, make them bigger. Maybe you love your lips. Maybe you love your boobs. I don't know.

Maybe you don't. I think most of us always want them to be bigger or smaller.

Focus on what you love and then you can return to number four.

You can drop that weight. You can eventually get there. You know if your hair is short right, it will grow. You can eventually get there.

So where can you start now. Where can you start today to get past this hate that you have for yourself on video. The bottom line is you need to look and feel good, and do whatever it takes to get there.

If you have hate, you have to find something that you love, whether it's a top, or a new hairstyle or your makeup. Find something that you love about yourself or something even deeper like we just talked about, and then you can go on video.

You really got to put some time into this. Get over this issue and make those videos make, make it come true. Make your dreams come true with love, not hate.

I know it's a process. I know that it's going to take. It could take several months.

Like I said, it took me about six months. I just was not comfortable. I had to lose that weight before I went on video. I had to let my hair grow a little bit.

Even now you can see I have hair. I like my hair to go down to certain point before I feel comfortable. So if you have to do that, you have to do that.

And maybe you've postponed but don't keep postponing.

Don't keep coming up with more reasons to not like yourself. You know, you're only going to get older. There's only going to be more reasons to not like yourself, so don't do that.

I would love to know why you are not liking yourself.

Why do you hate yourself on video? What is it that you're hating about yourself?

Just answer that below. What can you do to change it?
Hopefully you could think of that.

What is it that you're going to change? You know you've got a problem. How are you going to address it? How are you going to solve it?

Which challenge are you going to take on? I'm giving you a ton of questions here because I always do that. Which challenge are you going to take on?

  • Number one, pull out the makeup?
  • Number two, get pampered at the spa or the salon?
  • Number three, go on a shopping trip or a shopping spree?
  • Number four, are you going to drop the weight or the weight issue?
  • Number five, learn to love yourself regardless of any of your flaws?

So I'd love to know which one of those you're going to do!

That might be more important to tell me which one of those are you going to do. But I still would like to know what is it that you hate?

Go ahead and name it. You can say you hate your nose and you're going to address it by going to the salon every week and feeling great about yourself.

That is perfectly fine. There's the problem, and there's the solution.

Turn hate into love.
